Graphic prints

Etchings | Lithographs | Series prints | Linoleum cut | Woodcut

There are many different graphic methods. Sometimes all graphics are lumped together into a single technique and are called, a little carelessly, lithographs or, a little jokingly, etchings. Otherwise, we can talk about cuts of various kinds or engravings. We have all this and more. This is not the place for a detailed description of the different techniques - the non-ignorant already knows that creating a graphic sheet can be associated with a surprisingly large amount of work - but only to point out that we have some simple rules when it comes to choosing graphics and graphic artists. If you ignore the purely artistic (which we of course do not do), graphics make great demands on craftsmanship at all levels. Poor craftsmanship reveals itself mercilessly to the trained eye. We prefer to see that the image is made based on the graphic conditions and that it is about graphics and not about the reproduction of paintings or watercolors. And that the image is not mass-produced but is printed in small editions, perhaps only ten or fifteen copies. There is a difference between creating a graphic image and making an edition. Several of our non-Swedish graphic artists print in exclusive editions, sometimes only in a single copy. But there are also Swedish graphics in small editions and if you want to have breadth in your graphic collection, you have to accept slightly larger editions. One hundred and fifty copies are considered a relatively small edition in Sweden. In England, it is right on the border of not being classified as original graphics anymore but as a reproduction.
