Has had about 50 solo exhibitions since 1985, mainly at galleries in Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg but also in Borås, Umeå, Karlstad, Växjö, Helsingborg and Helsinki. He has also exhibited at Ystad Art Museum and Kristianstad County Museum as well as at the art galleries in Sölvesborg, Växjö, Falsterbo, Karlskrona and Malmö.

Among the 1950s collective exhibitions can be mentioned Mini Print International in Barcelona, ​​Grafik in Kobe, Japan, the Graphics Biennale in Krakow, Poland, the Lund Biennale in Lund Art Gallery, Swedish 1900s at Gothenburg Art Museum 1988, Aqua 95 at Kristianstad Art Gallery, Nordic Watercolor Salon in Norway and Nordic Watercolor Annual in Roskilde, Nordic Watercolor at, among others, Waldemarsudde in Stockholm 1998, Sculpture for the year two thousand at The Sketches Museum in Lund as well as the Art Fairs in Herning in Jutland and at Forum in Copenhagen.

Peter Sternäng is represented at, among others, the National Museum in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Nordic Watercolor Museum in Skärhamn, the Skissernas Museum in Lund and the museums in Malmö and Ystad.

For a long time now, Peter Sternäng has been transferring part of the working year to small villages on the Peloponnese in Greece.
