Richard Shimell lives on the edge of the large nature reserve. Dartmoor in South West England. Dartmoor is mainly a large area of ​​moorland, but there are also plenty of old trees, oaks, hawthorns and other deciduous trees. These trees are his "models", but he also makes pictures of the undulating landscape with its fields and forest groves.

Richard Shimell is a graphic artist and works in a linoleum material "vinyl flooring" which is softer than the usual linoleum material - this to be able to more easily cut the smallest details on the finest branches of the trees.

Richard Shimell began his career as a graphic artist in 2010 and trained at Dartington
